Stage 2 of 5

Analyst

The reasoning stage. Works out why, not just what.

What it does

Correlation is not a diagnosis.

A classic split test tells you variant B did better. It has no model of why. The hypothesis space was written by hand, and once the current ideas plateau, somebody has to sit down and think of the next one.

This is the stage that closes that gap. It reads scroll depth, rage clicks, drop-off points and funnel breakpoints, and connects a specific pattern of behaviour to the specific copy or layout failure behind it. Then it proposes the next hypothesis itself.

What it produces is direction, not implementation. Which part of the page is failing and why, not which component to edit. That decision belongs one stage further down.

Handoff

In, and out.

Each stage takes one thing and produces one thing. Nothing runs in parallel, and nothing loops back.

Receives

A cleaned behavioural record

Hands off

High-level direction on what to change, or a decision to stop

Skills

What it is good at.

Data analysis

Reads behaviour as a funnel: scroll depth, rage clicks, drop-off points, breakpoints.

Conversion analysis

Connects a behavioural pattern to the specific copy or layout failure behind it.

Prediction

Estimates what a change would do, including what it might break that currently works.

Authority

The one agent that can stop.

Every other stage is a pass-through once a run begins. This one can end the run before anything is planned or built.

Not enough data yet.

Before asking what is underperforming, the Analyst asks whether there is enough evidence to trust the answer. If there is not, it halts the run. Nothing is designed, nothing is built, and the loop waits for the next trigger.

A system that ships on every run would eventually ship on noise. Doing nothing is a valid outcome.

How it decides

Sequential, not fixed-horizon.

Classic tests assume you fixed the sample size before you looked. Peek early and the maths stops holding.

Vivere uses sequential testing with always-valid p-values instead, so evidence can be evaluated as it arrives without inflating the false positive rate. That is what lets the loop act sooner without optimising for noise.
